Sealed the deal. 5th place secured. In what was possibly our greatest defense performance of the year. Every single one of the boys who played gave everything they had. We ended up with three people out hurt - the toil of a long season taking it out of us.

the 1-3-1 worked wonders and the cougars found it very hard to break. I'll post a season summary later in the week but here are the numbers.

Before I post this though... the score sheet is all kinds of fucked up. Scores jumping all over the shop. And yeah Lloyd they should have moved the score board at the end of the half but didn't. We should have finished on about 93 points by my estimation.

Shouts to Lloydy for that incredible pin.

Shouts to Mitchell for his defense in the middle.

Shouts to Ryan for his offensive finesse.

Shouts to everybody for working so hard, listening and running the offenses to perfection. Great end to a great season

Special mention to Ryan for the defensive iq and Westley the taxi.

Ben ended up with 21
Modge ended up with 24

Omar had 17 in the first quarter.....

Still need work, we had those periods where we lost our heads (again) but props to everybody. Was a long game with 6 people but we managed 40 minutes worth of full court man which is a massive achievement

So many highlights, how about....

**Timmy fucking his eye up
**The kebab dude having one locked and loaded for Wes - then getting ejected - see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya
**Ryan's half time antics - offensive board and cheeky lay up with one tick left
**Ryan breaking his scoring record

But was that not the worst set of rims we ever played on? Omar left 10 points on the floor. Water left 10 points on the floor. etc etc. But we still have raised our ppg considerably. We are now 7-1 with a very good shot at making playoffs. As long as we stay sharp and want it.

Have to give props for Timmy getting mollywhopped when he was on his hustle. Mitchell's offensive rebounding. Ryan's scoring. Scotty checking his feet before he pulls the trigger on that trey. SICK. Freeman giving us 10, 4 & 4 proving me right sticking him back at the Point. Appreciated Ray Ray. OZ#4 live for playing with a fucked up thumb. Cos ya know on a different set of rims you would have had 15 in the first quarter.

Things that really make my dick hard:

6 players scoring double figures
22 collective steals
23 collective assists

Things that make my cock floppy:

Baseline 3 pointers
0 blocks

the 1-3-1 looked ok though right? I'm sure if we had played the full court man we would have broken 100. But we have bigger fish to fry

So Abervalley visit and we all think we gonna steamroll them right? Is that our problem?

We don't play enough games so we get too hyped. Is that our problem?

New inexperienced Coach. Is that our problem?

Not fit enough? Is that our problem?

I know that when we want to, we play the most beautiful basketball.

Timmy picking off a pass in mid flight. Sex.

Wes coming off that downtown pick and going strong. Bread & Butter.

Omar going through 3 people to the hole. On 3 straight posessions. Unguardable.

Fung outrebounding a 6'8'' centre with 30 ticks on the clock. Dirty Work. Unbelievable.

Freemans triple followed by the fly swat. Boner.

Ryan's blue charge streak showing its face. Scary.

Mitchells jumpstop. My favourite move (ask somebody).

Lloydys numerous passes. Intricate.

Scotty making a lead taking triple with a minute left in the game. In his second game back after an 18 month haitus. ICE COLD. Game winning tipping point. Scott Lloyd 33 - fearless in the clutch.

Mike. Money Mike. H2o. Evander. Game sealing trey IN THE EYE OF A 6'8'' CENTRE IN THE AIR. Money. Mon$y. M$ney. $oney. $$$$$. #####. Fucking butter.

You are all capable of dominating basketball in South Wales. But you have to do the following things to achieve that.

1) Want it. Bad.
2) Listen to instruction.
3) Keep your head.

That said, here goes the math.

Kings Vs Abervalley:
Quarter 1
16 - 18

We were unbelievable in the first few minutes but then ran out of puff. More running on Monday - bring your insoles! Showed flashes of brilliance in this quarter and racked up some steals.

Quarter 2
13-23

We did well off our downtown offense getting the looks we wanted but not running a zone in training really showed as we suffered on the glass.

Quarter 3
23-7

Changing the 5 every two minutes meant we ran them off the floor. 5 of their 7 points coming from free throws. Our offense was outstanding.

Quarter 4
19-19

Our bench got T'd up, then their coach got ejected. Then a spectator got ejected. Down by two points with a minute left Scott comes from the bassline to the top of the key and takes a pass. Releases quick like Ray Allen. Nylon. Kings go one point up. We force a turnover and Money Mike spots up. Their 6'8'' centre flys out knowing that this guy is automatic (it was in the echo) Money Mike is money. Swish. Butter. Dagger. 4 points up. We send their centre to the line but the pressure is too much. Clangs both free throws. Fung comes up with the BIG rebound. Gives it to Scott who holds. Gives it to Mike who holds. Aber without a coach don't have the presence of mind to foul so Kings basketball dribbles the game out to a standing ovation and goes 5-1.

What a way to take that W. What a beautiful, sensational, clutch minute of basketball.

A solid effort. Shame we were missing Evander and Freeman but we adapted well. Timmy, Fung and Ryan did a job on their point guard.

Lloydy, Scotty and Omar pushed the ball well.

Mitchell, Wes, Fung and Ryan cleaned up the boards (against bigger opponents).

Thanks to G and Evander for doing the table, Big head for the stats. Everybody who played for working their arse off for every second of that game. Full court man to man for 40 minutes with only 8 players is always going to be tough but it feels good now though right?

Our dreaded third quarter jinx has passed as we scored 22 points in the third. This is the first game we have ever scored more each quarter than the last.

Downtown worked.
Lloydys zone offense worked.
Our D worked.

79 points is the most we have ever scored in a league game.
We are 4-1 and top of the table.

We did lose our composure at times and made some mistakes but we haven't played a game for two months. So all things considered was nothing negative about tonight.

From start to finish it was beautiful. Even that final shot from Fung, how on earth did that not go in?

For the kings followers who don't make it to games... This is what happened last night.

Kings owned the first quarter taking a nine point lead. The lead diminished over the next three quarters under a barrage of 3's from the young Barry squad (6 in 7 minutes late in the game).

Barry take the lead for the first time in the fourth quarter as the kings players struggle to stop the young Barry guards.

In the ninth minute of the fourth quarter the game is tied 65 a peice. Barrys coach coops gets fouled and goes to the line hitting both charity shots to take a two point lead. Fung "skin tight D" then takes an offensive board and converts to tie the game up. A foul on barrys lloyd davies sends him to the line where he makes one and takes the lead. One point game with less than an offense left.

The ball gets swung around and lands in the hands of mike hollifield. Evander jacks it and rims out... Evander then catches his own offensive board with four seconds left. Instinct takes over as he goes up in traffic. Barry are forced to foul.

Fearless in the clutch evander hits his first to tie the game up, in the process preventing the kings from catching a harsh L.

A lucky escape and tough challenge going to Barry on Tuesday. If you are a kings player Reading this you know we are capable of turning this team out.

Run the offense, work hard on defense and good things will come.

Tuesday 27th October 2009 saw Abervalley host the Cardiff Kings and kick off there 2009/10 South Wales Valleys League season.
The Kings showed with a Huge squad of 14 players. Abervalley had a fullish squad and started the game with Owain, Joel, Greg, Dai Hale and newcomer Andrew.

The first quarter was a back and forth quarter, Abervalley set up a tight zone and the Kings struggled to get anything goin. Abervalley on the other hand broke there man to man defence scoring some good points. Kings moved the ball well and took good shots. Abervalley pass the ball well and put it inside for there post players David Hale and Andrew Fullford who scored some easy points. Joel and Owain were also very effective running the court contributing to the score. Kings found some ground and scored some good baskets. First quarter ended 19 – 14 in Abers favour.
Second quarter went down hill for Aber. The Kings looked a lot sharper, run the brake well, played a tight 2-1-2 zone defence which caused Abervalley loads of trouble. Abervalleys offence become static shots just wouldn’t drop. This saw the Kings tight zone grabbing strong boards and getting the outlet pass to the runners which lead to easy baskets. Tim running the floor well for the Kings. Some nice shooting from Joel and Owian put some points on the board for Aber but the game went to half time with the Kings up 45 – 25.
Third quarter saw Abervalley get back into the game, with better movement on offence and tighter defence lead to them scoring some good baskets. Kings matched basket for basket taking advantage of Abers little mistakes. Owain and Joel for Aber making some tough shots. This was a scrappy quarter for both teams, everyone rushing there offence/defence with Aber trying to take a lead and Kings trying to hold there lead and take it further. The game went into the final quarter with the Kings up by 14
Forth quarter was a fast paced quarter with once again Kings trying to take the lead further and Aber battling to take control. A few little mistakes for Aber saw the Kings run up a little larger lead. Tim and Omar really effective shooting at will for the Kings. Aber managed to gain some composure and get the ball inside to big man Andrew for some easy points. A combined effort from Abervalley saw the game go basket for basket and got the game flowing again but the Kings proved too strong and run out the game 12 points winners ended 69 – 57.

Abervalleys Squad Captain Owain said
“A few silly mistakes from us that cost the game. The Kings came to us with a strong and deep bench they played some really good basketball at times and are definitely in with a shot of the D2 East Title. We held our own but it was our second quarter antics that cost us the game. We now have to look forward and iron out the little mistakes that cost us this game but will definitely be ready for our next meet.
